An occaisional visitor to South Terrace

During my recent visit to Adelaide, I was lucky enough
to see Adelaide's much-underused restaurant car H 378 being used as a rather
fancy crew room and water closet at the South Terrace temporary terminus. I was
told by some trammies that it was its first outing for a number of months.
Although the tram has been around since around 1990, it has not been in use for
much of the time as succesive operators have given up on the idea. Indeed, when
I last visited in Jan 1992, it was out of service at the back of the depot yard.
Until the recent advertising of the sale of the line by
the previous state govt, the car was destined to go to the St Kilda Museum.
However, it was held back in case a future operator would like the option of
running a restaurant tram. With the new government promising not to privatise
any further government enterprises, including the Glenelg Tram, it's future is
once again up in the air.
The
attached photo was taken after dusk - sorry about the quality, I was borrowing
the digital camera and had only a limited licence to drive
it...
