Rather rare sporting special working

We have had some pix of the Essendon stub track, used
for storing cars taking Bombers supporters and their
unfortunate victims home after the match of the day at
Windy Hill. This track was also used for storing cars
to be fed into traffic for the nearby Moonee Valley
races.

When both events were on simultaneously something
extra was required. Moonee Valley races generally
finished just before the footy. So, cars for the race
traffic were parked in Pascoe Vale Rd, on the up track
just North of Moonee Ponds junction. Pic 1 MV66-1
shows them.

Regular service cars had to cross over to the down
track and run bang road past the parked cars. Pic 2
MV66-2 shows one such car.

The whole process was facilitated by a crossover near
Wilson St, about 500m North of Moonee Ponds junction
and manually operated colour lights and telephones
attached to the span poles. Last time I looked they
wer still there - but no guarantees.

A rare event - usually only once or twice a year.
