I like trolley buses too, Roy.
I drove them in San Francisco in the late 60s.
Marmon-Herringtons and St Louis, both with GE systems. Those buses averaged
124,000 miles between brake relines, even with the hills, because of the strong
dynamic brakes.
And we had a "booster" button for hill starts to
prevent rollbacks. Good old machinery.
The main reason the Muni Railway had them was
because the city of San Francisco generated its own hydroelectric power in the
mountains behind Yosemite National Park, and because trolley buses were ideal
vehicles for steep hills, up and down.

Australia had a number of systems in Adelaide 193?-1963?, Brisbane 1951-1969, Hobart 1935-1968, Launceston 1952-196?, Perth 1933-1969 and Sydney 1935-1959.New Zealand had a few too, and Wellington of course still has 'em.Any photos or anecdotes gratefully received.Roy WinslowCloset Trolley Bus Fan
