From memory, the siding at West Maribyrnong was for a couple of cars to wait for the shift change at the munitions factory, I'd guess during WWII.

There were certainly few people from the factory on the trams when I was at Essendon 1977/78.

Essendon played its last league home game at the Windy Hill ground in 1991. I believe they got a hiding from the West Coast Eagles. I believe that Essendon is looking at leaving the ground totally by moving its training facilities to Docklands Stadium.

I have some video of V214 and X2 676 using the loop in its entirity in January 1992, by this time the football traffic had disappeared and the loop had not been used in around 6 months. On the same tour, we used the heavily overgrown siding at West Marybinong - also now no longer.

Steve Dalton organised this tour from South Melb Depot - so many changes in 10 years - no tours in old cars, no sidings, no depot and bugger all W's!

I haven't looked at it in years, Malcolm.

>I assume Essendon doesn't use the footy ground for games any more.

Only for training. Wish I had have been into photography when I was younger, remember the long queue of trams waiting to take people home after the game which slowly changed from green to orange over the years, not to mention the red rattlers on the Broadmeadows line with the first couple of carriages shut off courtesy of drunken footy fans and broken glass...
