There is certainly not enough room for a tram the way it is now. Thought the extended Eastern Freeway has reduced the traffic count.
It has, I remember the traffic being a lot worse than now! Springvale Road on the other hand...
I assume the tramway extension is going to be another concrete desert a la East Burwood extension.
If you go to www.yarratrams.com.au and look under 'Projects', you'll find that they are planning a grassed median and a few other ideas to make the tram line a bit less visually intrusive.
Jeez, considering public transport is supposed to be a plus for the urban environment, they make it ugly in the new extensions and way too noisy in the city with that damn concrete, don't they!
Yeah, your average road is far prettier especially with all those colourful horseless carriages on it...8^P
Hardly a good advertisement for public transport.
But it's great to see the extension finally going ahead. They were talking about it 27 years ago when I first got to Oz. They should have done it when they opened Box Hill Central.
Agreed!!!!!! But then there's lots of things about PT that 'should' have been done.
Is there any move to extend the East Burwood tram to Knox City? I think that would be wonderfully viable as Knox City is a huge passenger generator.
Lots of talk at the moment, and the talk has reduced the tram line from going to Knox City to South Vermont. Usual effort with tram extensions, every 20 years extend your longest tram line two blocks. The last major extension was from East Preston to Bundoora in the 80s. Very sad.
