Quite right, Norman.
AEC stands for Associated Equipment Corporation and it was, in the early
days, a subsidiary of London Transport.
It was taken over by Leyland around 1966 or so and, as independent vehicle
builders, both sunk without trace.
I sit in an AEC Regal Mk III bus as I type this.

Dear Malin
Thanks for the photo of the recovery vehicle.
If I may be pickey it was built by AEC not Leyland.
Many were converted in this country for similar use and a few still exist

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] R10 - sorely missed at the Essendon de-railmentNow here was a vehicle equal to the task.
"R10" was in fact the radio call sign of the emergency
breakdown vehicle of the M&MTB. This particular
vehicle was R10 in 1968. It was a rebuilt exWW2 tank
recovery vehicle - a Leyland Matador I believe.
(With apologies for 'bussy' talk in a tram discussion
group!)
