Hi, gang!
Because of a problem with an "Application/octet-stream" attachment to a
message on one of my groups which contained a virus, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY,
ALL PICTURE ATTACHMENTS WHICH ARE RECEIVED AS "APPLICATION/OCTET-STREAM"
attachments by Yahoogroups will result in the attachment--and the message
containing the attachment--DELETED FROM THE MESSAGE ARCHIVES. Further, the
person who posts an "application/octet-stream" attachment, or ANY ATTACHMENT
OTHER THAN JPEG (.jpg), to any of my groups will be placed on MODERATED
status immediately. The person will be notified and given the opportunity
to re-post the message and picture with a true JPEG (.jpg), at which time
the moderated status will be lifted. This
I regret that I have to take such a stringent measure, but I have to protect
my listmembers against viruses and other problems. JPEG (.jpg) attachments
are not known to contain viruses, and they are universally openable by
nearly every computer.
Please remember that TEXT ATTACHMENTS OF ANY KIND ARE NEVER PERMITTED on any
of my groups. Please govern yourselves accordingly.
If you have any questions on whether a particular picture is a true JPEG or
not, please e-mail me privately. Certain pictures which show the suffix
.jpg in their title turn out NOT to be JPEG (.jpg), after all, but some
other format. To test it out, check your picture with own image-editing
program first.
Sincerely,
Peter Ehrlich (Milantram)
listowner
