I refuse to concede that older cars in good operating order cannot mix
safely with modern cars.

Which basically means finding good homes for a lot of stuff that is
otherwise likely either to be scrapped or sold to the highest bidder
overseas?

Hi Guys,

Just for those who are concerned about old cars etc., a system that
has
something like 260 MILES of track, two routes operated by W's will
fit in
just fine, as discussed elsewhere, other systems can quite happily
run old
cars with new, I just wish this could be dropped out of the
equation. The
W's (albeit modified) WILL return. What we should be focussing on
is the
fact that cars that have not had the modifications done (read all
other cars
than the 53 modified W's) will NOT be allowed to run in public
service as
the paranioa is so well entrenched now as to be impossible to
remove with
common sense. Our aim should be to have the Thornbury depot made
the mueseum
with the operation as I suggested to merry Creek with the reserve
section
and always operated with a crew of two, this is the only way I can
see any
heritage cars running again. The current plans for the museum is
focussing
on a NON running museum combined with the railways at Newport. That
would be
a dissaster!

G'day Peter E.My message 1205 was meant to address these
distracting
issues, interesting though they are.I feel sure that once we have Ws
operating in service again that they, along with the Restaurant
Cars will be
an effective precedent to occasional[at least]operation of the
heritage
fleet. In the short term the operators may have enough trouble
accepting W
class operation,I am reassured by Greg Kings message 1218 re W
modification
and training.I would be concerned that Yarra and M might resist
further
developements out of bloodymindedness if it is pushed too soon. That
doesn't
mean that we shouldn't be thinking, planning and working towards
some form of
heritage operation, maybe along the lines of Trolley
Week.Peter,Murph tells
me you havn't been to Melb.,it would be good to see you out
here.Regards to
all,Peter Bruce.--- In TramsDownUnder@y..., "Peter D. Ehrlich"
