Thanks Greg,

We hope to get trucks and electricals from Melbourne, as you say #15's are almost identical to her original trucks. Unfortunately, we will not be able to run her with totally authentic equipment, as it is unlikely that two sets of resilient wheels will ever show up!

I would love to get a copy, electronically, even of any photos you may have. My pet system is Brisbane even though I am now involved with the preservation of trams from WA.

Its funny you mention the destination roll and info sign. I have no knowledge of what happened to the roll, but the sign takes pride of place on my back patio! As the sign holds no relevance to WA tram history and was gathering dust in a corner of the Carbarn, I was keen on seeing it put on display somewhere where it could be enjoyed. I have even gone to the trouble of removing the white paint from the Kalinga, Toowong, Bulimba Ferry and Rainworth entries- these lines having been officially closed in Easter 1962, some 6 years before the system proper. So I have you to thank for my most interesting of discussion starters!

I too have a Brissy roll, reputedly from a drop centre. Unfortunately, it is cut into sections, and I am missing 2 or 3 entries, Dutton Park being one from memory.

Hi Roy,

I was the fiend who made the fledgling Maitland museum aware of 550's
existance at Yalambie hts specila school, it was subsequently swapped for an
Atlantian bus and was "restored" by a none tram type restorer, it was
completely done by SPER, I have a big soft spot for this (and indeed all
Brisbane trams) tram and I can only hope that you guys eventually get some
Melbourne #15's and RC2 equipment to creectly operate the car. I have a shot
of her when she was at Yalambie and I might have a shot of her in service,
if memory serves me, 550 appears in the excellent (3hrs) tape of the
Brisbane Tramways. I'm just greatfull I was in the right place at the right
time. Many years ago (when I drove buses in Perth), I donated a front
brisbane destination sign and street tram information sign to the museum in
the hope they would eventually get a Brisbane car (this was back in 1977-78,
I must have known something!) and more recently donated a pile of trolley
catchers to the museum, next time you see him, say hello to Lindsay
Richardson for me.

Cheers
Greg

G'Day

I have a particular interest in this tram, now under refurbishment by the
Perth Electric Tramway Society at Whiteman Park, WA.

I have a rather large collection of prints of other Phoenix cars (FM's
547-554), but the only photos I have seen of 550 is a side on shot showing
Chinzano Signage in the book Tramways of Australia and its front nose at
Light Street Depot in 1968.

I am wondering if anyone out there has any other photos of 550, either in
service 1963-1969 or in its retirement 1969 onwards. I would be very pleased
to hear from you.

For those not in the know, this tram was stored outside for many years and
was in a rather rough stse when it came into PETS ownership. However, the
bulk of the body has been refurbished by the excellent crew at the Sydney
Tramway Museum, prior to its long trek across the continent.

Cheers
