Sure.

We should probably meet somewhere after we figure out who to invite to the
meeting.

Then we could set some goals. Once we do that, draw up a list of people who
could or should support operation of W type trams. I think W class trams
should be the initial goal. Once we get that up and running, then we could
introduce the notion of a few foreign cars.

Question.

Is the skills base and the tools still there for heavy W class tram
maintenance at Preston Workshops?

If not, we need to get part of the place cordoned off from the modern trams
and set aside for W class types.

Any operating entity needs to be able to guarantee that any trams are safe
to operate.

And there is no VicRoads authority that will give a roadworthy on a tram.

Seems to me that we have a fair advantage here in Melb. Both the Govt. and
the operators are committed to running Ws in regular service,as I understand
it our benevolent Govt. is providing the dosh for brake modifications after
Yarra and M-tram wriggled out of the
obligation,Yarra at least have admitted that they have no choice, they
obviously don't want to have to but they do have to.The Govt. is also coming
up with the money for these bullshit tram attendants, maybe they could
demand some say as to how they are used, they could at least request that
they be a little more passenger[not customer] friendly,as it is they seem to
hunt in packs and this intimidating,to repeat myself, make some of them
safety zone connies,an individual is always more approachable, our drivers
are just and only, that, so we need a more human face,a better and more
consistent point of contact with the public.I really think the
re-establishment of W class operation on a couple of lines has to be
insisted on and I think that is perfectly feasible, routes 8&12 at least off
peak for a start. This is a foot in the door for later special use of more
ancient rolling stock.Greg Kings idea of a W drivers roster is a good one
too.If a campaign has to be run to get this limited W operation up and
running then what better way of forming a pressure group for a later, larger
agenda.Lets crawl before we walk.Peter E.,Muni stuff is interesting and very
instructive especially for further along the way.Anyway ,lets use the
restoration of Ws as the starting point,I reiterate, there is a potentially
advantageous position here,a moral high ground[pardon the pomposity].What do
you reckon?????Peter Bruce.
