And they are reappearing on the roads as we speak, the City Circle has had
Ws back for some time now.
A few are on the City Circle, with no ticket machines, heaviliy
modified with track braking systems and running a much reduced
service.
Still running nonetheless.
From what I hear, normal service trams are having brake mods done now
and should be slowly coming back shortly.
Time will tell on that one. The operating comapnies certainly don'ts
eem to be any hurry to get them back on the road, despite their
contractural commitmens to do so.
To get back to my point, the fact remains that there were no Ws
operating in normal revenue service for many, many months and there
was no general public "stink" about it.
Because the expectation was that they were returning. Indeed, the government
seemed to be at pains to keep saying things were being done to return the
trams, something that wouldn't have been reported in Sydney because editors
up there wouldn't have seen it as newsworthy to include. It was quite
ridiculous in many respects the number of times the government gave progress
reports or rereleased the same old ones about the braking systems, who
designed them, how soon until trams returned, etc.
If the government had have said that they were getting rid of them
altogether due to safety concerns, then I expect that you would have had
significant public debate about why, just like last time.
And I wouldn't mind if you were a bit less rude and arrogant in your posts
(especially given the FAQ states no personal attacks), others opinions are
as valid as yours.
Its not my style to "personally attack" anyone.
Apologies if I misinterpreted, but some of the statements in some of your
mails have implied that people don't know what they are talking about,
including some tramway employees! In particular your statement "You seemed
to have failed to notice ..." from someone in Sydney to someone who lives in
Melbourne and lives and works near several tram lines seemed a bit much!
If you dont like my
posts, you can always page down to the next message.
Of course. But at the same time, I take an interest in what everyone says
and given you were replying to my comments, it would not be unreasonable to
see what was said. As well, ideally if we can all play together nicely, we
can hopefully benefit from each others experience, instead of avoiding
particular peoples posts because they insist on taking positions and geting
personal (only speaking generally -honest!) Maybe I'm too idealistic for my
own good...
Especially as you have alluded to seeing reports and surveys
The M&MTB reports and surveys can be found in the State Library of
Victoria.
And I think I may have even seen exerpts on the web somewhere...
back your statements up with references that others can pursue.
There is a rich body of published literature about public transit, its
planning and operation. The messages across the literature as whole
are very consistent on the coverage of passenger attitudes to public
transit. Even a little general reading on the topic, with "Transit
Australia" magazine being a good local starting point, will bring out
the salient points quickly and cleraly.
Have read it for many many years.
And your opinions are no less and no more valid than anyone elses.
Cuts both ways Michael.
Something we both agree on.
