When I was a Motorman, I was very skinny, not today!
and had no trouble with W2 cab doors.
Today I struggle with 249s cab doors at Loftus.
As you say,its easier to go out via the saloon door.
The big blokes got into and out of the cab via the saloon door
at Camberwell, and most got the Connie to punch the clock.
219 was a good car when I was at Camberwell.
Sad it didnt survive.

Cheers, Mick.

Hi all,

I keep thinking that with my girth these days, that if the W2 & W3 trams had a wide motorman's door (a la W4) then it would have been a great tram for me to get in and out of. It could have been classed as a W2w (w = wide door), whereas I have to get in from the saloon. Getting out is okay, but the climb up and the twisting to get in through the door plays havoc on my knees and back these days. The door could have been slung across the gap between the existing front where the door closes, to the edge of the bulkhead on the outside of the body - effectively cutting the corner.
Aahh well, just have to go through the saloon is all.

Great Photo though.
