Re: Luna Park [Melbourne] - a gripping story

I have never subscribed to the campaign 'we must keep every W'.
National Trust did a great disservice to tram preservation with that
campaign. The hypocritical organisation never spoke up when W2s
were going: only when wide-body Ws went. It never spoke up for
iconic Harris trains.
There isn't a single iconic FJ Holden taxi in revenue service today,
or even 53 in private preservation.
There isn't a single iconic DC3 aeroplane flying for TAA or Ansett
between Melbourne and Sydney (and not 53 in private preservation).
There are not 53 Humber Hawk (or Chrysler Royal) ambulances in
revenue service today.
There are not 53 1930s Dennis fire engines (fire appliances in the
vernacular of that hobby) in revenue service.
Why should there be a 54th W?
National Trust should have campaigned for greater access for the
full diverse fleet of heritage trams.

1011 has no traction motors (no surprise). It has been mounted on
bases which make the step very large from the ground. Judging by
earlier Luna Park installations, a ramp & step access wooden-slat
platform will be added later.
