Re: City tram line plan is 'crazy'
  Peter

Hi All.

Late one night last week while out and about near the Suburb of Goodwood, a group of us were out spotting
Trams for the Night.

A 2 Car Tram Set traversed the Goodwood Tram Overpass Bridge on the "UP" Track at it's normal time, but what caught us by SURPRISE was a New "S" CLass Tram when it traversed the Goodwood Tram Overpass Bridge on the "UP" Track heading towards the City (Adelaide).

"WE NEVER HEARD IT COMING UP THE OVERPASS BRIDGE" from the Glenelg side.

We were lucking enough to get around to the Goodwood Road Level Crossing after it had gone past, and
wait for it's return from the City heading towards Glenelg.

By the way, with the Old "H" Type Trams you can hear them when they are travesing the Overpass Bridge,
but you will never hear the New Trams coming, so it is a case of "STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN" before you cross the Tram tracks here in Adelaide at any time.

Regards: Peter (trains46).

Sounds like more typical crap from the road lobby. Logic suggests that once again having tram and rail services meeting together that patronage is likely to increase because it is one less change of mode to get from the Railway station to Victoria Square.

Congratulations to the S.A. Government for having the foresight to re-invest in Light Rail for the future. I hope the new Flexities are a great success and that some new renaissance will occur for trams in Adelaide. Of any Australian city its wide city streets are perfect for this in a future where the cost of oil will inevitably lead to a complete reassessment of public transport needs.

Sunday Advertiser, Adelaide

THE $21 million plan to extend the Glenelg tramline down King William
St to the North Tce railway station has been blasted as "crazy" by the
RAA. [Royal Automobile Association]

The state's peak motorists' body has questioned the planning processes
used to approve the controversial extension.
