The curves in Spencer St Melbourne that were installed to align with a
platform stop had similar problems and were replaced last year - See:

Common factor is a lot of large fixed truck trams on the 96 - before the
Es arrived.

However - it looked as bad as the Sydney track back in 2011 but was not

I'm not sure when the platform stop and curves went in but probably
around 2005 as part of the Southern Cross station development.

Mal Rowe - who reckons replacing rails after less than 4 years use is
pretty extreme.
