RE: Whiteman Park tramway extension

Hi Bob,

While operations continue, they are pumping it out.
BCC are rehabilitating their other quarry at Pine Mountain, Carina Heights, with solid fill from construction projects etc.

Cheers,
Mick

G'day Mick,

The view into the "hole" would be fairly spectacular I think. Is the hole filling with water? Usually these things do after a while.

Cheers
Bob

Hi Bob,

The quarry admin and crushing plant area is fairly level and would be suitable.
If you compare the attached views, it is almost as large in area as the nearby Toowong bus depot.

Cheers,

Hi all,

That hole in the ground looks a tad problematical??

Hi Tony,
It was originally 5 years but with all the infrastructure work going on up here, they need the quarry a bit longer.
The City Council has offered to assist, either directly or by organising sponsors and we have a committee doing the long term planning.
As with anything there are pros and cons in moving.
The biggest pro is that we will be allowed to run through the Mt Coot-tha botanical gardens, which are huge (see att) The biggest con is that we need to ask whether any improvements to the current site are worth it.
Of course, there is always the possibility that the Council could change its mind with a change of party.

Cheers,
Mick in Brisbane

Hi Mick

So you can just "move everything there" to Mt Coot-tha at some future time.

So easy-peasy..

Is the quarry site suitable, with space for a reasonable length of track, or a case of "we want the Ferny Grove site for (some sort of abomination) so you have to go, this is all we are offering, take it or leave it"?

Is the museum being offered financial support for the move, or expected to up-stakes and shift with its own limited means?

I suppose 10 years gives enough time to plan, so I hope the site is better than what limited space you have now.
