Since the tunnels etc are being built to a larger structure gauge, I don’t understand why it is not heavy-rail, extending to connect directly at Leppington as was originally proposed. This would permit direct transit to the airport without having to change trains (and platform levels at St Marys), and also allow for direct express trains linking to two airports .. Badgerys, Glenfield (change for Campbelltown etc.), Wolli Creek (Illawarra and South Coast), International & Domestic, Central and turning back at St James middle roads.
