Re: German modeller of Sydney tram seeks assistance.

Thanks Mal for that great Noel Reed shot.

The location is Alfred Street, Circular Quay.  The P car is pulling out
of Young Street bound for Phillip Street and on to the eastern suburbs.

The hotel in the background is the venerable "First and Last Hotel",
alas now long gone.  The hotel's name related to the fact that as
sailors arrived in the windjammers from overseas and then subsequently
departed it was the location of their first and last drink ashore.   The
photo has been taken from what is now the location of the CSELR Circular
Quay terminus.

R car #1890 is towing the second R car in a non traffic operation.  R
and R1 cars were not fitted out for multiple operation unlike the vast
majority of their predecessor classes.

The towed car is probably bound for Randwick Workshops after leaving
Fort Macquarie Depot (now the location of the Sydney Opera House).

This was in the days when the system was very capable of dealing with
unusual issues without calling for replacement buses and shutting down
services.  It was so right up till February 1961 demise of Sydney tramways.
