I think the major problem is that the Queensland state debt is already $60 billion and set to increase.

While the extension could well stack up in the business case, I would imagine that the state government wants to keep further borrowings under control as much as possible. Extra money from Canberra would be useful in that direction.

The LNP often criticises the government for not building this or that, and in the next breath whinges about the state debt increasing.
