Second is groups of young men on trams who describe their sexual
activities – in great detail. Happens quite often especially on
Monday afternoons when “comparing notes” about their weekend
“activities”.

Great stuff thanks Matthew. Gee Canberra is a desolate hole! The trip
took about 5 minutes longer than schedule but the reasons are obvious
in the video and there's probably no particular schedule for this
occasion. Note the dark-coloured stanchions to reduce their visual
impact, something that they should be doing in Sydney. Despite the
horrible concrete runway, it generally looks a lot better than CSELR.
I see that they've left space between the tracks for a future stop at
the industrial area, good forward-thinking if you insist on
centre-island platforms. I'm a bit mystified by the drop in speed
limts to 50 (then alternating back up to 60) along Northbourne Ave.
There seems no reason for it but at least there's no sign of
Sydney-style over-zealous micromanagement nor meaningless 10 km/h
crawls into stops.

 

I detect the influence of the German operator in the livelier driving
style and the effort to render the standard gong into a something
resembling a more effective clatter gong. I've been hanging out for a
Central European operator to be given a contract here for years, so
the wait is over! The less of the French the better, they just don't
know how to run tramways properly and it's taking them too long to
learn. You need a long tradition of doing it which the French simply
don't have. Trying to reinvent it from scratch is a disastrous path
and we all pay for it with poorer service.
