Re: Sydney light rail costs hit $3bn in new deal

I hope the government will now get down and deal with the profound problems
within the TfNSW project management process that led to this fiasco in the
first place. Surely they have twigged by now that there are serious
problems in TfNSW - in other areas as well. Any government should be able
to rely on a professionally competent bureaucracy. Leave aside that
governments themselves of both sides have been politiciiising and
destabilising the competence of the public service since the 1980s and get
on with putting it back together again. Nothing wrong with outsourcing the
public interface functions, that should continue, it's the back office
stuff that's become dysfunctional. Hiring people based on their competence
rather than on "identity quotas" would be a good start.
