Looking at the diverted track in St Kilda Rd provokes memories of the last such project some 50 years ago - when the St Kilda Rd tramway just north of St Kilda Junction was dug up and diverted for the project linking Queens Rd and Dandenong Rd via "Queensway".

The standards for track support - and for fencing to keep the public (i.e. me) out of the works area - were vastly different.
