Lygon St - tidying up
  Mal Rowe

2.4km of double track tramway in Lygon St is now completely replaced -
except for a few 10s of metres across Princes St which was already in
mass concrete.

First pic today shows the crossover just north of the work zone - it
will remain in use until last tram Tuesday night, with Lygon St being
open for first tram on Wednesday morning.

The only work remaining now is various bits of final top layer bitumen -
mostly beside the tramway, but within the tramway area for a few 10s of
metres at the southern end.

Second pic shows some of the new track, looking north from just south of
Park St.  Workers are removing the safety fences and you can also see
the new kerbing that lines the tramway all the way from Brunswick Rd to
Elgin St.

This will almost completely eliminate the problem of motorists turning
right (illegally) across the tramway between allowed crossing points at
intersections.

Mal Rowe - wondering how the workers will fill in their time in the thre
days left before Lygon St reopens.
