Newcastle is somewhat different in that the CBD had died and relocated to the suburbs and patronage on the branch was dwindling away in the direction of zero. Sydney Central Station is still a major terminus and interchange.

The bonus in Newcastle is that it has enabled the sewing of the seeds of a reinstatement of a tram network. The train should have been terminated at Honeysuckle though, not Wickham.
