Back in 1892, a Scots photographer was despatched to the colonies by the
picture postcard company George Washington Wilson and Co.
He was to grab some pics of what was going on.

Fred Hardie did a magnificent job and the resulting glass negs are now
in the collection of the University of Aberdeen.

Mr Hardie ended up buying the company, but succumbed to complications
from an operation to relieve a duodenal ulcer in 1923.
