Re: Very Fast Running Live - not Museums

Melbourne trams often travel at 60 km/h for usually short distances.

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] Very Fast Running Live - not Museums

I can remember at least 2 occasions when the transport unit I was travelling on seemed to go as fast as it could - on the available track.
The famous O class all day tour with 1254 - see tdu.to archive, involved a run from Maroubra to La Perouse, where the tram seemed to be travelling as fast as it could - driven by "Wally".

The other experience was a train tour (ARHS) to Mt Victoria, up the Blue Mountains, with a set of 4 carriages hauled by the new electric loco 4618. It felt so fast - for the conditions that it was even scary - lurching around the many curves.

I also remember othe fast tram sections - particularly on reserved track - e.g. Oxford St, Woollahra.

Are there any parts of the Melbourne system where the trams are allowed to go faster than "Museum speed"?
