For one thing, the overhead spoan poles in Bourke St were initially
painted a darkish green, instead of silver; they were changed some
years later. I can't recall whether or not they were repainted in
green, or became silver when first repainted.

Track in Bourke St was laid in mass concrete but had a couple of
inches of bitume on top; nowadays it's bare concrete. And these days
there's only one crossover.

I barely recall Spencer St station before the "new station" built for
the inauguration of standard gauge to Sydney; in the area facing
Bourke St, there was a minor concourse giving access to platforms 9,
10 and 10A, which were located between platform 1 and Spencer St.
Suburban platforms, west of the country platforms 1-8, were numbered
11-14.

Spencer St station, at least to a kid's eyes, was then a pretty grubby place.
