RE: Adeaiide-Glenelg Overhead
  Noel Reed

In my interpretation ----

An under bridge or underpass is where a road (with or without tram tracks)
goes under a railway. e.g. Millswood SA, Essendon, Clifton Hill, Hartwell
Vic, Burwood, North Strathfield, West Ryde NSW

An over bridge or overpass is where a road (with or without tram tracks)
goes over a railway. e.g. South Yarra, Prahran, Windsor, Balaclava,
Elsternwick, Toorak, Glenferrie, Camberwell Vic, Newtown, St Peters, NSW

A flyover is where a road with or without a tramway or a railway rises from
nominally level ground to go over another road, tramway or railway. e.g.
Goodwood , Emerson SA, Burnley , East Camberwell, Oakleigh Vic, Central -
Redfern [multiple], Warwick Farm, Strathfield , Blacktown , Rosehill,
Camellia, Rydalmere, Broadmeadow, Waratah, Sandgate NSW.

There are no doubt many more.

Noel Reed.

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] Adeaiide-Glenelg Overhead

Work well underway and this morning and noted two teams in my area. One at
Sth Plympton stop and another at Plympton Park stop. Also noted 103 and 107
on the south side of the Beckamn Street crossing with their pantos down. 103
on the down track and 107 on the up. New overhead is in place from from west
of Marion Road to Sth Plympton stop by 10:00am.

Took photos but have no idea how to send one to the list as I have never had
the need with so many others here doing it. The old list used to have
instructions but cannot find any now.

Also checked the west end of the new Sth Road flyover and work well underway
cutting the line into the flyover tackway.

BTW what is the difference between the term flyover, bridge and overpass
etc? We older users have always called the structure at Goodwood, a flyover,
but that term seems to have passed by.

Graham
