Christchurch - Horses in the Mall
  Hinman, Dave

Great to have had Mal R visiting us, but he got away a couple of days
too early to see the new (still isolated) track in City Mall in use for
the first time. As part of the official opening of the refurbished
Mall, double decker horse tram no. 10 from Ferrymead has come to town,
was used as the official platform for a Mayoral speech, and then pulled
by 3 magnificent draught horses, made a first ceremonial trip along the
new track with Civic dignitaries on board. From now until 23 December
it will offer rides for a gold coin donation, as part of a pre-Xmas
central city promotion. - Combined effort of the Council, the Central
City Business Assn, ChCh Tramway Ltd and THS (Ferrymead) . Pics show
the Mayor, Bob Parker, officially opening the mall, and then a Roy
Sinclair pic of the first double decker horse tram running in the
streets of ChCh for over 100 years.
