Re: Ron Scholten, and the W2 "funky thing"

One of the tall tales from Camberwell from many years
ago was that a driver and conductress were "sprung"
doing their "funky thing" one night on a saloon seat
of a W2 parked in the depot.
I am sure this happened more times than we would care
to realise.
In my memory the W2s were always run in after broken
or middle shifts (by about 2030) and all night
services were provided by "big" [sliding door] cars.
So it was great fun a couple of time when I "scored" a
W2 on a night run. Must have happened because of a
changeover during the afternoon or early evening. One
really hot night we got a W2. The conductor and I
opened all the windows and it was wonderful breezing
along. I think the trip left [the old] Burwood
terminus about 2115 and we didn't pick up any
passengers until the Hilton. I had a photo stop in
Burwood Road near the Whitehorse Inn.
I remember Peter Winspur, a Camberwell inspector at
the time, in the cab of the down car that passed me
near the junction of the North Balwyn line. Think he
must have realised I had been "up to something"! The
time exposure of the W2 came out really well.
