There were only ever two cars with pan handles in the M&MTB, Greg, and they
were Essendon cars. I don't have a clue what the proper name was for the
controllers in 750 and 751 but they were called pan handles or Panhandles by
the Essendon crews. I never drove them.

Hi Bob,

Sory to sink you but, 750 and 751 actually had PCM control exactly the
same
as the Adelaide F/F1 and H type cars, the pan handle cars were originally
what the RC1 cars had.

That's right, Peter. 750 and 751 had Panhandle controls. I never saw
them
until after they were converted to RC controllers. They were very good
cars
when I drove them as they had a real good workover when they were
converted
to conventional hand controls.

Civil Branch had a lot of terminology which was all their own.

One of us ought to go down and interview old Norm Maddock at that museum
on
the side of Malvern Depot (?) on Glenferrie Road. He was the Tramways
Union
Delegate for Civil Branch and you had to have been working for the
Tramways
for at least a year to understand a word he said. I wish I had taped
some
of
his raves. Like something from another planet.
