---Correction..

750 and 751 were fitted with PC 5 automatic 3 notch remote contollers
similar to the H class in Adelaide.
For this reason they were always on Moonee Ponds - Footscray.
You had to make very sure when running in that you moved the
controller key to OFF then REVERSE and back to OFF when stabling the
car after your shift. Or do it at the other end selecting FORWARD
when you took the handles back and knocked out the switches.
This was because the reverser was air operated.
If the this proceedure was not done , and a driver in the morning
did not wait for his air to build up to full pressure before moving,
the car the car COULD go backwards.

That's right, Peter. 750 and 751 had Panhandle controls. I never
saw them
until after they were converted to RC controllers. They were very
good cars
when I drove them as they had a real good workover when they were
converted
to conventional hand controls.

Civil Branch had a lot of terminology which was all their own.

One of us ought to go down and interview old Norm Maddock at that
museum on
the side of Malvern Depot (?) on Glenferrie Road. He was the
Tramways Union
Delegate for Civil Branch and you had to have been working for the
Tramways
for at least a year to understand a word he said. I wish I had
taped some of
his raves. Like something from another planet.
