trammies, seems to be a fairly recent developement,post MMTB,I
think.Signs at tramstops read CARS STOP HERE or HAIL CARS HERE in
MMTB days.Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know but I'm

the same reason trolleys are called cars and trolley buses arecalled
buses. The real names are tramcars, trolley cars, or trolleybuses. It
is strictly a matter of local custom. Many US cities (includingyour
old one wouldn't be caught dead calling anything a trolley carthough,
as the word streetcar is the real correct phrase. And many citiescall
