Giddy

Thought I would drop a quick intro, some of you may already know me, My
name is Steve Dalton, I am currently the Secretary for the South Western
Railway Society, and I work as a Signaller at North Geelong.

My Interest of trams goes back to childhood, and after leaving school I
joined the then Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways board. MMTB, in 1988 and
trained and worked as a Conductor, working at various depots such as South
Melb (Hanna Street Site) Malvern, Essendon, and I also did a shift or two at
Glenhuntly, I was actively involved in the Heritage Trams, as back then it
was a hell of a lot easier to run a heritage tram such as the Toast Rack,
and Burnie, not to mention the L Class on the Zoo run, I knew the maintence
people and travelled around on the scrubbers a bit as well. Officially I
never went driving but we shall leave that one alone, In 1993 I transferred
to the Signalling grade of the Railways about 2 weeks before I was due to go
driving, I sometimes regret not sticking it out, but I felt the railways was
at the time a better offer, and despite not getting my drivers ticket I have
not looked back. I can certainly share a story or three about late shifts
and what not.

I hope to be able to share something to this group.

Steve Dalton
