Hi Joseph,

The car will be painted in the white with blue trim lines it wore for the
Royal tour in 1954, it actually lasted a few years in those colours, I
believe until 57 or even 58. The museum decided that, as they have a
number
of R and R1 types and they all where the same (lovely) colour scheme, at
least one car will be in a different schem and 1951 actually wore this
scheme. That is about the only plan I believe there is for the car. The R1
2001 in RAAF colours that was used for the Federation line promo, will
eventually be returned to standard Sydney livery.

As an aside, the car that actually wore the RAAF colours, 1974 ran for
some
time on English Electric "Silent Block" resilient wheels, after a couple
of
years, they were removed, inspected for wear and stored, they survived
closure and they are in the care of the Sydney museum and, whilst 1974
remained for many years as a farm shed (not sure if it still survives) it
was last in very poor condition. However, the two running R1 cars at the
moment are, 1971 and 1979, it is hoped that one day, the wheels can be
fitted to the trucks of one of those cars, the wheels have plenty of
"meat"
remaining on them.

Cheers
Greg

Hi all
Does anybody know what the plans are for R/1 1951? I know it will be
repainted in the Royal visit Paint scheme, but are there any special
plans for the tram once it is restored. The reason I have ask is that
on the bendigo tram website, it mentions that 1951 will once again be
used as a royal tram (or something along these lines). Does anybody
have any information on this?
Regards
Joseph Spinella
