'DownUnder members have been busy durin past fews days with the group from
Tramway Museum Society (Crich). Of the large party who toured Oz only 5
made it across the Tasman this time. On 25 Sept (their 1st day in NZ) they
had a very full time.
The day's activities began with an excursion from their hotel (located
stategically at the site of one of Auckland's two Grand Unions!) aboard
restored ex-Auckland Transport Board Daimler bus 201, the first of several
hundred diesel buses purchased in the 1950s to replace the trams on
non-trolleybus routes. (No.201 was the only one assembled in the UK and was
exhibited at the Leeds Motor Show c.1955) Our tour took in a number of old
tram routes naturally.

Keith Terry with their Western Springs Tramway hosts at the hotel)
Then followed tours around the museum and a great deal of tram driving. .
(Next pic is of Keith Terry driving Auckland 1902 (Brush built) car No.11
(followed by 4' gauge Wellington "Fiducia" class No.257).
Baldwin steam tram No.100 was in operation especially (see last pic).
In the evening we had a most enjoyable dinner at a nearby restaurant
followed by a presentation of slides and videos by Geoffrey and the WST
members.
