Most "greenfield" light rail installations around teh world for the
past 30 years or so have used 750V rather than 600V. The Melbourne
system has been buying 750V capable traction reticulation and control
equipment for quite a while now, and will probably eventually go to
750V.
So if you wanted to restore a tram and have it able to readily operate
in a number of locations in the future, some of which may not yet
exist, having both 600V and 750V capability would be a very useful
feature.

First I would like to say that the blue livery reminds me of the
original Sydney Light Rail Livery, and would have look right at home
running on the system beside the modern LRVs, before they were
plastered in advertising.
Secondly does anybody know the exact reason why 2001 was wired for
both 600V and 750V? Is there plans to run this vehicle on Sydney's
light rail system?
