I cannot speak for other depots, but Malvern depot installed security
fencing and lighting a couple of years ago. All the trams are behind
cyclone mesh and locked in at night. The depot would only be unattended for
about 3 hours at night.
All depots have good fire sprinkler systems to protect the trams and I know
they are well maintained.
In spite of the this, I did see a heavily gratified tram a couple of weeks
ago. It was actually quite artistic and only on the outside on one side.
At the door they had written something like 'Pay your fare'.
Andrew.

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] Essendon Depot Grafitti attack?
Hi all,
Catching a taxi to the airport this morning, I saw four trams from
Essendon depot that looked like they had suffered a severe grafitti
attack, covering most of the side including the glass.
It was a bit hard to tell as some were from a distance, and on
another I only saw the covered glass from the off-side through the
tram.
Can anyone confirm, and does anyone know whether there is any sort
of security at our depots. If they can get in and do this, there'd
be not much stopping them from dropping a lighted match on the way
out, and before we know it we'd have another Brisbane on our hands.
Best regards,
Mike Alexander
