Dual Voltage for R1 2001

First I would like to say that the blue livery reminds me of the
original Sydney Light Rail Livery, and would have look right at home
running on the system beside the modern LRVs, before they were
plastered in advertising.
Secondly does anybody know the exact reason why 2001 was wired for
both 600V and 750V? Is there plans to run this vehicle on Sydney's
light rail system?
