YT could be the real winner from this. NEX were trying to sell
M>Tram to YT, but why would they buy it when the fact is that M>
are/were never going to make money? This way, the government gets a
single operator for the tram network and doesn't have to approve a
merger/sale, they get to dictate the terms. YT can possibly get the
other part for cheaper/nothing, and renegotiate the contracts to
become more realistic.
The Yarra Trams contract would have to be totally re-written, from both
sides of the fence.
clause 44 is the no merger clause, along with others that would have to be
changes on the merging of two companies.
On 29th August 1999 Z1.93 ran the last government tram, marking 93 years of
government run trams, then Z1.1 ran the first Swanston Trams to mark the
first year.
This is the forth year of Swanston/M>Trams, anyone for a ride on Z1.4 this
week?
Chris.
