Good Evening All
Sorry for being a bit off topic tonight, but I feel this should be
mentioned. Today I was out taking advantage of Melbourne's wonderful
weather and catching up with a few tram shots at the recently rebuilt
St.Vincents Plaza. I have read on both this site and VicRailNews
about some unfortunate actions of some enthusiasts from time to time
and haven't beleived that they happen. Today I saw first hand and
ended up copping the rough end of the stick caused by the actions of
a rather rude photographer.
At about 2:10pm today, A grey haired chap double parked his red Ford
Laser outside the St.Vincents Private hospital causing a reasonable
disruption to the flow of traffic that was behind him. The chap got
out of his car and ran on to a grassy area on the St.Vincents Plaza
interchange and attempted to take a photograph of a diverted B2 class
tram that was travelling into the 109 platform. As he attempted this,
he quite rudely ask an elderly guy to get out of the way of his shot.
The elderly man did not understand what the photographer said and
continue on his way to the tram platform. The two men then exchange
rather rude words after the photo was taken, then the photographer
jumped back into his car and took off. I was in the centre section of
the plaza interchange, on the walk ramp within the barriers
photographing trams heading toward Port Melbourne. I thought this
incident had finished and I moved my attention back to the tram
pulling up which I was going to photograph (shaking my head mentally
that this silly incident had happened), then I was set upon by the
elder man who was agressive and fired up after being abused by the
original photographer. He had a go at me as he thought I was
something do with the other chap. I then spent 15mins attempting to
cool this bloke off and explain that I was nothing to do with the
dill that had previously fired the situation up. I also had to
explain to this elderly man what I was doing and that it was a hobby
and that some people in this hobby take things too seriously and a
little excited/crazy in some situations such as a person getting in
their shot.
To that chap in the Red Ford Laser, I certainly hope you are
satisfied with the result of your actions today, and realise you are
the type of fool that turns people in the public transport industry
against people who have an interest in Trams/Trains and Buses. I also
hope you are very happy that a fellow enthusiast copped abuse from
your actions. Please try and wake up to yourself in future. If a
person, a motorcar or even a passing bird happen to wander into your
shot just at you release the shutter, just grin and bear it. Its not
the end of the world!! There will probably be a next time.
