Paul, and anyone else interested. The new railfan pub in Melb.is "The
Duke of Kent"in Latrobe St.just west of Elizabeth and the usual night
for meeting is Thursday from about 1700 on.A few years ago the old
railfan pub,the "Grosvenor Tavern" would regularly attract 20 or more
assorted fans and fellow travellers on Thursdays and was known
interstate and even overseas as a meeting place.A hard core maintain
the tradition which dates back to the early '60s,I would love to see
the numbers build up again,it was very sociable, very varied and a
reliable place to eventually catch up with long lost friends.Anyway
I'll be there tomorrow night about 1830 and I hope to catch up with
the odd TDU,in fact the more odd TDUs the better.Don G.re Hawthorn
Depot and the awkward run in,many depots in Melb. had slightly
inconvenient arrangements,in fact I posted a piece not all that long
ago about the last arrangement but one at Malvern,at busy times there
were usually one or two standby drivers wielding point bars to assist
with the run in.Bang road is a tramway and railway term in Victoria
at least meaning wrong road running, does it apply elsewhere in
Australia?Back in the '60s and '70s on the trams it was no big
deal,if it was called for you did it,no escorts just lots of gong.If
I remember correctly you had to run bang road to get from Victoria
St.Nth.Richmond into Church St and that was routine[maybe not for
motorists]PBruce.
