Trammies in Auckland have just concluded a week of celebrations of the
100th anniversary of electric trams in Auckland. There was the obligatory
amount of damp weather which is expected to attend all such occasions in
Auckland, so the atmosphere was perfect.
Last Sunday there was a cavalcade of trams - seven cars in total on the
service - including our two Aussies - 1891 ex Sydney ex Wanganui Baldwin
tram motor 100 and the newly rebuilt Melbourne 321.
Because our workshop fan overhead is down at present while building
extensions are in progress, shunting cars is being done by either our
ex-ATB tug/jitney or as the opportunity arose last weekend the venerable
Baldwin. Attached a couple of shots (G Anderson, K Bennett) of 100 towing
321that will be of interest to comrades across the pond.
More of the the "Centennial Symphony of Trams" performed on Grt North Road
on 24 th November, principal performer 1902 Auckland "combo" No.11,
conducted by strassenbahnmeister James Duncan, official media recordists D
Pitt and G Anderson - all in due course.
Good to see Brisbane Fernygrovefuhrer, Peter Hyde in attandance.
Cheers for now
