An MMTB Timetable of Feb 1922 shows the Hawthorn Bge - Hawthorn Shuttle Tram as only needing 1 car in service, (15 mins peak, 20 mins other times), so maybe the bang road movement to and from the Depot at the start and end of service was performed.

The through Electric service between Spencer St & Hawthorn began 4/12/1927, (good date!), but the crossover in Riversdale Rd just east of Power St was not provided till 17/3/1931.  So what they did with cars running in/out for the 3  1/2 years is open to speculation.

Here's my contribution to the discussion about Hawthorn Depot. - Print landscape produces a better print.

This stage was interesting with all the interfaces with the cable system.

Firstly there is a part map dated June 1926 which shows the layouts as discussed. This was the first map to show the    X- over at Glenferrie Rd. The X-over in Power St avoided congestion of the then "Main Line" Wallen - Riversdale Rd.

The short excursion of about half a mile up to the Glenferrie Rd X-over to finish for the day would not have taken too long. Or due to human nature, how often did they sucumb to the temptation of a bit of unofficial bang roading whilst nobody was looking, in the wee small hours? - depot starter notwithstanding.

The second drawing is of Hawthorn Depot layout which seems to have stayed constant for a large part of it's operational life. The main change was the removal of the per-way? siding which must have lead down to the Yarra mudflats.
This seems to have been removed in the 30s or 40's. Anybody have any more info.

Time to cut a few more notches and glide away
