The Hawthorn Depot was a new construction. Presumably
the preceding horse trams were housed at the Richmond
cable tram depot - they were operated by MT&O Co and
ran from the Richmond cable terminus to Auburn Rd via
Burwood Rd, Power St and Riversdale Rd.

For many years Hawthorn Depot housed the M&MTB
clothing factory - where uniforms were made for all
the staff. No outsourcing in those days!

Here's an August pic of what is surely a most handsome
building!
