This picture I sent to Richard de Armond's trolley
bus site quite a while ago.
It's an old blurry shot but shows many interesting
features.
Taken in the early 30's shows Wellington from a
point near Kiawharawhara, which would be behind
the viewer.
The camera is facing South looking towards
Thorndon.
The steam train hauled by two Ab class
pacifics is the Auckland express on the old main line which is now the
Johnsonville suburban line.
The other steam train on left inbound, is from the
Hutt Valley.
The vertical line ( which is a needle I placed on
the scanner) indicates the position of the Thorndon tram shed and terminus of
the tram route.
Just visible is a tram like vehicle which is in
fact Wellington No1 trackless tram out side the shed beside the
depot.
Nearly 75 % of the Trolley Bus route can be seen in
this view.
If you look carefully you will be able to see the
twin overhead along Hutt Road.
