Yes that would appear to be the case but the doors on the "off"

are open and there is no sign of the driver. Would the woman and
child be running to catch the tram? And the FE Holden would date it
as some time after 1956 so possibly in the period from 1957 to 1959
when the service only operated from Elwood Depot to St Kilda
Railway.
Notice the absence of car traffic - different to today. And the
street light with the red (whatever you call them?) indicating a
compulsory stop? The MMTB had little panels on the street lights
back
in the days to indicate the location of stops - reds were
compulsory
stops and greens were conditional stops.
More memories...
PS: Who took the photo of 53? There were not too many tram
photographers around in the 1950s.

Another shot from Ron.

It would seem the car has run out of the Depot to do a run to S
Kilda.

Paul.
You are spot on with dating the photograph. It appears to have been
taken after the service was cut back to Elwood Depot.I started
photograpphy in Jan 1959,and my first photo was of 53 at this
location.Unfortunately most of my early photos taken prior to 1965
have disappeared.I learnt the hard way not to lend negatives to so
called school friends.

PS negs taken since April 1965 have survived.
