Funnily enough, when I was in Melbourne for the 2000 Light Rail Conference I
did a delightful day trip to Bendigo and picked up a pamphlet for the Rifle
Brigade Hotel ... meant to stay there on last year's Vic visit but never got
round to it. Maybe next time ... glad to see it's recognised by the fans,
anyway!

Sorry Don,not really a joke, the building behind the tram is the Rifle
Brigade Hotel in View Street Bendigo, from time to time on this list
we have discussed good places to have a beer and watch the trams go
by,this strikes me as being one of the best but unfortunately the
last tram passed 30 odd years ago.I think the photo is from the steps
of the Art Gallery,View St.was lined with Victorian buildings, was
double track with centre poles and was frequented by beautiful Bogie
Cars on their way to and from Eaglehawk.Back in 1970 Carlton Draught
was what you got from the tap in any and every pub, light beer hadn't
been thought of and Diet Ale was something the doctor made you
drink.I have to admit that the posting was a little obscure.Yes the
car is ex HTT,very ex,I think M&MTB P class.Next time I will think
before I write.Peter Bruce.PS.thanks for all the NZ trolley bus
stuff, did you have a look at the Melb.aerial photos?maybe there is
something similar for NZ cities.--- In TramsDownUnder@y..., "Donald
