I think we can assume that the photo was taken while the trams were still
running, and The Press simply used it as an old file photo in their advert.
Reason: the Christchurch overhead was dismantled very quickly after the last
tram (September 11 1954). The overhead crews started chopping it down as
soon as the last tram rolled into the shed. It is highly unlikely any was
still up even a month later.

Actually, if you know where to look on the reduced picture you can make out

couple of fittings if not the wire itself.
