Christchurch serendipity

This picture turned up by surprise as I was leafing through the "Christchurch
Guide Book", 1955-56 edition. Since 1956 was the last year of Christchurch
trolleybuses, it might be possible to call the shot current were it not for the
tramwires perceptible by the sharp-eyed. But its appearance in a booklet
dedicated to up-to-date information is due to its being an advertisement for
the Chch "Press" and featuring that institution's building on the north side of
Worcester Street.

The bright new diesel bus is upstaged by RS&J-CTB 16 (today preserved at
Ferrymead) approaching us decorously as it starts to negotiate the southeast
quadrant of the Square on its way to Cashel Street and a return trip to
Marshland Road on the Richmond service.
